#10
Who builds my store? What should I look for in a contractor?
It is your responsibility
to build the store. You will probably want to work
with a local architect who can help you “interpret”
the information provided in the floor plan and specifications
book.
You will need to hire a contractor to do
the physical build-out of your store, in accordance with
the plans and specification provided to you. Contractors
normally include a team of workers to handle the plumbing,
electrical and mechanical needs.
When hiring a contractor, it is always a good idea
to ask for references and to call up those references
to see if they were happy with the contractor’s work
(probing for timeliness, staying within the budget, and
accountability). When you receive the quote for your store
build out (which should be in writing), make sure
the quote is based on a fixed construction price per square
foot. Also make sure that it includes all
the necessary set up and installation.
In addition to hiring a local architect and a contractor,
you will need to hire a cabinet maker to
build the wooden furniture (e.g., manicure tables, drying
station, wall units and reception desk). Your architect
and/or your contractor should be able to recommend a reputable
cabinet maker.
